Technology solutions giant IBM has announced that Paul Moung will be managing director of IBM Malaysia from 1 April 2013, as Ramanathan Sathiamutty is leaving to pursue other interests.

"Paul's unique client focus and his diverse leadership experience with growth markets, Asia Pacific, ASEAN and country teams, make him the right person to lead IBM Malaysia," said IBM ASEAN regional general manager, Cordelia Chung. "Rama has put in place a strong business ecosystem and a high-performing IBM team in Malaysia that provide an excellent foundation for Paul to lead IBM Malaysia in its next growth chapter."

"I want to thank Rama for his leadership and for his focus on delivering higher value to our clients and the country," said Chung. "Under his stewardship, IBM Malaysia has helped clients capitalise on emerging growth trends such as Smarter Commerce, Analytics and Smarter Cities. The IBM Corporation has made new and significant investments in the global delivery centres in Malaysia in recent years and collaborated with institutes of higher education to nurture high-value science and technology skills and talent in the country. I am confident that under Paul's leadership, Malaysia will continue to be a key market for IBM."

Moung, who has held senior executive roles with IBM for 27 years, was the first Asian to be appointed to the role of general manager of Hong Kong in 1994. Prior to this appointment, he was the vice president for Cloud and Smarter Planet, Growth Markets.
