The appointment of Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah to lead Microsoft's public sector division is another important building block in the commitment to collaborating with the Malaysian government in its efforts to transform the nation into a developed digital economy, said the technology solutions giant.

Microsoft Malaysia managing director Carlos Lacerda said that Mohd Azharuddin "would focus on government, education, health and other public sector organisations as they move into a new era of citizen services by maximising the capabilities of their technology investments, reduce overall costs, and boost productivity."

"Mohd Azharuddin's appointment as our Public Sector Lead fulfills a very important building block in our commitment to transform Malaysia together in education, businesses and for Malaysian lives, which has spanned over 20 years," said Lacerda. "With Microsoft's experience and end-to-end approach, we can help the country's leaders and institutions innovate and leverage technology on their own terms, through secure and flexible solutions and an array of partnerships and programmes designed to address their specific aspirations, visions, needs and priorities."

"Governments and public entities are increasingly being asked to do new things with fewer resources, which puts them on the front lines of using technology to drive innovation," said Mohd Azharuddin. "Those new things also have to be better and more efficient as citizens and government employees expect increasingly higher levels of service. Government and public sector leaders need to drive both cost savings and innovation that will allow them to be well-positioned now, and also in the future, as technology, policy and expectations continue to change."

"It is an exciting and challenging time for government and the public sector, and I look forward to partnering with them to impact and improve the missions they commit to every day," he added.

Mohd Azharuddin comes to Microsoft Malaysia with experience from his involvement in GLC Transformation Programme and Government Transformation Programme, marketing, business development and human resources. Before joining Microsoft, Mohd Azharuddin was Senior Vice President, Special Projects, Managing Director's Office at Khazanah Nasional. He was also previously attached to PEMANDU in the Prime Minister's Department focusing on urban public transport. Prior to joining Khazanah Nasional, he spent more than 10 years in Shell Malaysia and Shell International in London in the LNG business and human resources.
