NBN Co. has named John McInerney Chief Information Officer who will oversee internal technology systems at the company, an NBN spokesperson has confirmed.

McInerney will start on 3 December. He was previously with Hewlett Packard where he was vice president of Infrastructure Technology. Prior to that, he was group managing director, CIO for Telstra. He has held a number of senior management roles in the telco and technology sectors over the past 15 years.

McInerney has replaced Claire Rawlins, who resigned in August from the position following a three-year tenure.

"We are delighted to welcome an executive of John's calibre and experience to this important role within the company, a Teslatra spokesperson said. "Our IT and systems are core to the NBN and to the operation and delivery of a wholesale network designed to serve the people of Australia for decades to come."

McInerney could not immediately be reached for comment.
