Microsoft pushes faster, touch-friendly IE11 preview onto Windows 7

Mark Hachman | Sept. 19, 2013
Microsoft has released the consumer preview of Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7, following up a developer preview it made available in July.

Microsoft's right—you'll probably choose a browser less for its speed these days than for its integration with a particular search engine, its plug-in capability, and whether or not you share that browser across other PCs or mobile devices. And if you're on Windows 8.1, the full version of IE11 will be available for that browser when Windows 8.1 is generally released the night of October 17. Still, for IE users who remain on Windows 7—and especially for those on older browsers—upgrading is a no-brainer.
