A new move to appoint two Malaysian IT industry veterans to executive leadership roles  to manage Microsoft's enterprise and public sector businesses is part of a transformation to a 'Mobile First, Cloud First' approach in Malaysia, said the technology solutions giant,

César Cernuda, president, Microsoft Asia Pacific said Thiyagu Letchumanan has been named director of Enterprise & Partner Group (EPG), and Nik Ariff Nik Omar has been appointed Public Sector lead for Microsoft Malaysia.

"We are pleased to welcome two very experienced local industry veterans as part of our leadership team at Microsoft Malaysia," said Cernuda.  "Thiyagu and Nik Ariff are important additions, who will play an integral role in Microsoft's ongoing people investments as it transforms to be the productivity and platform company for the mobile-first and cloud-first era."

In his new role as EPG director, Letchumanan will focus on Microsoft's private enterprise customers to evolve a path that encompasses consumer and business technology, and extend from the datacentre to the desktop to other devices and into the cloud.

"I am very excited to begin my new journey at Microsoft in the midst of its current transformation, and with an increased focus on continuous innovation, for the mobile-first and cloud-first era," he said. "I am confident that, with the current strategies in place, we can deliver dramatically enhanced value and differentiation to our customers and partners and make Microsoft the largest contributor to Enterprise business in Malaysia."

Letchumanan was managing director of Hewlett-Packard Malaysia prior to this new appointment and has more than 25 years of experience in the Malaysian IT and telecommunications industry. He has held senior positions with multinationals such as Compaq, Hewlett-Packard and Siemens.

"I feel privileged to continue in this unique role leading the Public Sector business here at Microsoft," said Nik Ariff. "Not only do I have the chance to continue with the same passion and commitment to deliver Microsoft's plans and objectives, the role also gives me the opportunity to help shape the nation, while helping the government to improve and deliver better services to all. Timing to take on this role at Microsoft could not be any better since the government has some five years to go in continuing its transformation programmes to achieve its developed nation status by 2020."
