Technology solution giant Microsoft's Lumia smartphones is to be distributed in Malaysia by MSC [Multimedia Supercorridor] Malaysia status firm ECS ICT, whose subsidiary whose subsidiary ECS Astar already distributes Microsoft software licences and products.
ECS ICT's chief executive officer Soon Jan Hsung said ECS ICT will distribute the Lumia smartphones for the IT channel and consumer electronics chain stores
The Group's wholly-owned subsidiary, ECS Astar has been formally appointed by Finland-based Nokia Sales International, a subsidiary of Microsoft Mobile, said Soong.
"We are heartened by the opportunity to extend our partnership with Microsoft through its new smartphone range, which is an excellent addition into our distribution portfolio alongside Microsoft's software products and Surface tablet PCs," he said. "We are confident of replicating our successful partnership with Microsoft for this new smartphone range, as we have done with Microsoft's other product segments."
Soong added that in July 2014 analyst firm IDC forecasted that Malaysia's smartphone sales was expected to grow steadily to US$2.4 billion in 2015, compared to US$2.2 billion in 2014, which was an 8 percent growth year-on-year, driven by various factors including the availability of more affordable smartphone models in the market.
ECS Astar will distribute Microsoft's range of Lumia smartphones comprising four models so far: the Lumia 930, Lumia 830, Lumia 735 and Lumia 535.
