GFI Software foresees mobile device management (MDM) going from a can do to a must have at SMBs in coming months.
Kris Hansen, Asia Pacific technology manager at the security vendor, said MDM solutions have only been available to enterprises and out of the reach of SMBs.
"Now SMBs are also struggling to monitor not the mobile phones they provide for work purposes, such as securing the work data and ensuring they are only used for work purposes," he said.
Hansen adds SMBs have also been craving a way to somehow track the personal devices of employees to "ensure they are not being used to compromise company security and productivity."
The focus for GFI Software last year was the release of Remote Command Line, which is the first function of its new Remote Background Management tool in GFI Max for managed service providers.
Since its release, Hansen has been pleasantly surprised by the uptake of the product "even though it is basically only a DOS prompt at this stage."
"A large percentage of our MSP customers upgraded to what we thought would be a relatively minor release," he said.
The feedback the vendor has been receiving from users is being used to improve the product, such as enabling it to work on client machines remotely to fix problems without interrupting the end user.
