Malaysian pilgrims performing the Haj will more easily be able to communicate with their loved ones who are travelling with them as well as those at home with a range of new services, which includes about 40 minutes of free talk time, from Malaysian telco Maxis.
The new service offerings were announced with the launch of Sahabat Korporat Tabung Haji programme, which was held on September 8 2011 at the Lembaga Tabung Haji headquarters on 8 September 2011, officiated by YB Major General Dato' Seri Haji Jamil Khir bin Haji Baharom, minister in the Prime Minister's Department.
Maxis vice president of corporate affairs Mariam Bevi Batch presented a mock cheque representing Maxis' contribution of these services worth RM750,000 (US$250,706) to Lembaga Tabung Haji (the Malaysian pilgrims' fund board).
The 40 minutes of free talk time is available on a special Saudi Telecom Company (STC) SIM card, which comes preloaded with 25 Saudi Riyal (US$6.67), during the forthcoming Haj season, while Maxis postpaid customers will enjoy 30 percent discount on roaming voice calls made to Malaysia during the period from 1 October until 15 December 2011 along with unlimited data roaming for RM48 (US$16) per day.
With assistance from Tabung Haji, the SIM cards will be distributed free to the pilgrims at various departure locations, namely Selangor (Kelana Jaya), Johor Bahru, Penang, Terengganu, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, before they leave for Saudi Arabia. In total, Maxis will be distributing 17,000 special STC SIM cards to pilgrims.
