Malaysia's association of internet businesses Internet Alliance [IA] has invited its Taiwanese counterpart, the Institute for Information Industry (III) and Internet and E-Commerce Association (TIEA), to host an ecommerce and cloud summit in Kuala Lumpur on October 18, 2014.
IA Malaysia president Lee Cheung Loong said that both Malaysian and Taiwanese internet businesses, which include internet service providers, web hosters, data centre firms and ecommerce businesses, should share knowledge and strengthen the platform for startups and small and medium enterprises [SMEs].
"Ecommerce has grown exponentially in the last few years and we are seeing more companies starting or looking to invest in Malaysia," said Lee. "This is why IA is focusing this year's event - called Malaysia-Taiwan Ecommerce and Cloud Summit [MaTECS] - on e-commerce and cloud hosting as better dialogue is needed amongst local entrepreneurs."
"Conference attendees are set to benefit from the knowledge sharing from prominent speakers from both Taiwan and Malaysia, giving Malaysian SMEs a better idea on the robust nature of this industry," he said, citing a recent PayPal Malaysia report that said Malaysia's ecommerce market was expected to grow to RM3.43 billion [US$1.04 billion] by 2015.
Lee said guest Taiwanese entrepreneurs include: John Sie the founder of Accupass, Allen Chang the chief executive officer of Fashion Guide and May Kao the founder of iGuang.
Included in the Malaysian contingent, Lee Chong Kian, the chief technology officer of internet payment gateway provider iPay88, and Wei Kwok Seing, the founder of lelong, will share their business experiences with delegates.
Other speakers will also include a representative from Taiwan's ecommerce firm Unitox; Yu Kuo Hsing from Lion Travel; and Yang Acer, founder of e-wallet application MoneyCoin.
Great time for ecommerce
"We are hoping that MaTECS will be the knowledge repository for the ecommerce and cloud hosting industry in Malaysia and Taiwan," said Ruey-Beei Wu, president of the Institute for Information Industry (III) Taiwan.
"It's a great time for ecommerce in Malaysia and we hope to continue to bring value added conferences such as these to local innovators and SMEs, as with the right idea and the want for success, you too could be next big entrepreneur," added IA Malaysia's Lee.
The Malaysia-Taiwan Ecommerce and Cloud Summit will take place on October 18th 2014 at Double Tree Hotel, Hilton in Kuala Lumpur.
Established in 2010, IA ["Persatuan Hubungan Internet Selangor dan Kuala Lumpur"] is an association comprising local internet business players such as Internet service providers, web hosters, data centres, solution providers, and ecommerce businesses.
