Chinese handset manufacturer ZTE Malaysia has appointed Ingenuity Solutions (Ingenuity) to form a joint venture company with Ninetology Marketing to act as sole local vendor for ZTE mobile devices in Malaysia.

Speaking on 15 August 2012, Ingenuity executive director Low Gah Luen said this joint-venture expected to sell 30,000 units amounting to RM15 million (US$4.8 million) by the end of this year, and 120,000 units amounting to RM60 million (US$19.18 million) in sales by end of 2013.

"This synergistic collaboration between Ingenuity, ZTE Malaysia, and Ninetology will play on our inherent strengths, thus empowering the ZTE brand to further penetrate the local consumer market and gain a bigger market share in Malaysia," said Low. "We have already strategised a 360 degree tactical plan on how to increase ZTE's brand visibility locally, and strengthen its market leadership through our sales and marketing efforts."

"As the ZTE brand is now moving from the low-middle end to the high-middle end market, we being the ZTE local vendor for mobile devices, will ramp up our marketing efforts and provide a competitive edge to make this aspiration a reality. Ingenuity believes that we are more than ready for another quantum leap in the ICT distribution business while expecting a significant profit turnaround for our Financial Year quarter one, June 2012/2013," he said.

ZTE Malaysia's managing director Eric Wang said ZTE was ranked world's No. 4 in terms of handset shipments in the fourth quarter of last year while ZTE smartphones sales were growing faster than any other vendors, ranked No.5 today according to a report by research firm, Gartner.

"Partnering with Ingenuity, being the nation's leading one-stop ICT solutions provider, will put us on the right track to achieve our goal to be the world's top three handset vendor by 2015," said Wang, "Currently, we have conquered two percent of the mobile phone market in the country and we expect that this figure will continue to rise."

Ninetology has more than 2400 dealers, 32 service centres and collection centres nationwide to provide sales support and after-sales service to ZTE customers.
