Next, the concept of one enterprise data warehouse containing all information needed for decisions is dead. Multiple systems, including content management, data warehouses, data marts and specialised file systems tied together with data services and metadata, will become the 'logical' enterprise data warehouse. Information is the oil of the 21st century, and analytics is the combustion engine. Pursuing this strategically will create an unprecedented amount of information of enormous variety and complexity. This is leading to a change in data management strategies known as big data. Organisations need what we call a Pattern-Based Strategy, an architecture that seeks signals, models them for their impact, and then adapt to the business process of the organisation.
The combined impact of these forces will make architectures of the last 20 years obsolete. Together, they force the issue - they drive us to create the post-modern business, drive simplicity and force creative destruction.

Without a doubt, there are reports about the global economic outlook remaining worrying with the economic and financial environment in the Eurozone and US deteriorating. Naturally, this is expected to affect many countries across the world including Malaysia.
According to the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER), Malaysia's second quarter 2011 GDP [gross domestic product] growth is 4.0 percent year-on-year due to a weaker domestic demand. It also reported that the economic growth momentum will likely moderate from the second half of 2011 onwards arising from a weaker exports outlook.
Nevertheless, within every adversity is an equal or greater opportunity. While consumers and businesses cut back on certain spending, there are many companies that see this as a good time to look into leveraging technology or implementing ICT solutions that will help benefit the company - either to improve productivity and efficiency, faster time-to-market or to gain deeper consumer insights to develop more precise marketing strategies/campaigns - that will help the company grow its business.
New business requirements and economic pressures are driving the need for continued innovation and changes in the way systems are designed, data is analysed and managed, and IT is delivered and consumed.
For the year ahead, we see Business Analytics (BA) and Cloud Computing taking up more of the centrestage. IDC had reported that BA will take centrestage for Asia in 2011 - it says organisations are realising that their success or failure depends on making optimal decisions at the right time, and BA has shown that it can improve decision making and drive revenue growth. We believe this will continue into 2012 for Malaysia as well.

According to IDC and other reports, cloud computing and software as a service (SaaS) will significantly outpace traditional software product delivery in the region. The adoption of cloud services is continuing to mature in the Asia Pacific region as a way of delivering existing and new business services that will enable organisations to leverage technology to take advantage of opportunities more quickly. Again, we see this trend growing stronger in 2012 in Malaysia.
