Adult-rated films (R21) are usually not the kind of stuff that one can watch on one's local TV in Singapore.
Come tomorrow and it is all going to change for good. StarHub is bucking the trend with some new adult offerings on its On Demand platform.
Starting 15 January 2013, StarHub TV customers will be able to catch R21 titles on its On Demand platform, announced the Singapore broadcaster.
Kicking off the launch are films such as The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, I Love You Philip Morris, Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, A Frozen Flower, A Single Man and Lust, Caution.
According to the broadcaster, these titles will cost from S$5.99 each.
Interested viewers (StarHub TV customers) can access the R21 titles by accessing a R21 PIN through a one-time registration. They can do this by calling 1633 or by visiting any StarHub Customer Service Centre. They will have to verify their identities (StarHub TV registered customers) and prove that they are 21 years old and above.
Registered customers will receive their R21 to their mobile phones. They will be prompted to change their R21 PIN upon first viewing of any R21 title.
StarHub said that customers will have to re-enter their R21 PIN to view the R21 content again if it is paused for more than five minutes. This is for additional security. Also, customers can opt-in for the SMS notification alert when an SMS will be triggered to the registered customer should there be a failed attempt on the On-Screen verification.
Customers will have to have the company's HubStation, HubStation HD or HD Interactive set-top boxes to access any R21 content.
