LTA’s new taxi app to debut mid-December

The mobile app will show the availability and location of taxis across Singapore to better match available taxis to commuters.

Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be launching a new taxi app in mid-December this year to further improve the taxi availability in Singapore, especially during rainy days and peak hours.

Called Taxi-Taxi@SG, the app will use crowdsourcing to show the availability and location of taxis across the island to better match available taxis to commuters, LTA said on 24 November 2014.

By using the app, commuters will be able to easily locate the number of available taxis in the vicinity, and broadcast their positions to allow taxi drivers to identify the exact locations of potential customers.  This will benefit taxi drivers as it helps reduce the time spent on the roads looking for customers, added LTA.

Improved MyTransport.SG app
To help commuters find the shortest and most convenient route to their destinations by buses or trains, LTA will be enhancing the existing MyTransport.SG mobile app with a new journey planner feature.

A highlight of the planner is the personalised alarm function. The alarm not only indicates the number of bus stops before users reach their destination, but also alerts them as the bus approaches the selected bus stop. Commuters will also be able to receive real-time updates of the bus location and identify their current locations along the route.

Besides that, commuters can expect to receive a more accurate estimated time of arrival for buses in the MyTransport.SG app from March next year. The enhanced feature will track bus location by the seconds and update commuters by the minute. It will also indicate if there is seating or standing room available on the selected bus arriving at the bus stop.
