Network operator Level 3 Communications is making 60 members of staff in the UK redundant due to poor revenue growth.

The redundancies are part of global layoffs taking place at the company, with 700 Level 3 jobs being cut worldwide.

Jeff Storey, CEO of Level 3 Communications, said that the cuts were necessary to help the company grow its profits.

"We have made the decision to reduce our workforce, which will affect approximately 700 people, or 6.5 percent of our 10,600 employees across North America, Europe and Latin America."

He added: "Decisions that affect people are extremely difficult. In many ways, our people are our business, but we are making these hard decisions to improve our competitive position and success going forward."

This is the second round of redundancies at the company this year, after job cuts were announced in January as part of its merger with Global Crossing.
