Lenovo has formed a global partnership with Fusion-io in a bid to boost performance of it ThinkServer rack servers.
The new partnership will allow Lenovo customers worldwide running intensive database workloads on ThinkServer rack servers to use new PCIe flash-based workload accelerators for select servers leveraging Fusion ioMemory.
Fusion-io, product marketing, John Fitzgerald, said Fusion-io flash memory turbo charged Lenovo servers to deliver maximum application performance and system efficiency.
"Fusion ioMemory offers tens of terabytes of high-performance flash per server to deliver real-time business insights at a fraction of the cost of scaling out disks for performance," he said. "The persistent, high capacity Fusion ioMemory platform gives servers native access to flash memory to significantly increase datacentre efficiency, with enterprise grade performance, reliability, availability, and manageability.
Fitzgerald said Fusion ioMemory could be integrated into new ThinkServer servers as they were shipped, or added to existing servers in minutes to accelerate database, virtualisation, Cloud computing and other enterprise applications.

Lenovo, product marketing manager, Andrew Jeffries, said ThinkServer systems featured world-class performance, measured on popular workloads like VMware VMmark and certified for demanding database apps like Oracle 12c.
"However, some database workloads need greater IOPS," he said.
"Compute performance alone isn't adequate. Relentless in their efforts to innovate, improve performance and deliver value, Lenovo's partnership with Fusion-io is a perfect fit to meet customer demands for improved database performance.
Jeffries said the Fusion-io adapters offered transactional performance gains for rigorous database workloads like Microsoft SQL, SAP HANA, MySQL or Oracle databases.
"Compatible with a wide array of ThinkServer rack servers and widely compatible with popular OS and virtualisation choices, these flash-based Fusion-io adapters feature superior performance and lower latency versus traditional upgrades such as solid-state drives," he said.
