Malaysia's  Smart Sourcing 2012 summit will be launched by the Malaysian Minister of Human Resource Y.B. Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam and is themed 'Leapfrogging Competition: From Local to Global', said the organiser Outsourcing Malaysia (OM).

The 2-day event, which will be held from 10th October to 11th October 2012 at the Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, is expected to attract more than 250 industry leaders, said industry body Outsourcing Malaysia's chairman, David Wong.

The theme of the summit this year is quite apt due to the fact that as the sourcing industry takes the leap to go global, many complexities with technologies and services are coming to the fore that need to be addressed, said Wong.

"The theme emphasises Malaysia's endeavor in going global as a location that offers high value information technology (IT) and IT enabled services through its robust home-grown service providers," he said. "Many inherent complexities with technologies and services associated with going global and embracing new practices have become intrinsic value discussions, which shall be addressed at this summit."

Wong said issues key issues that will be discussed include customer expectations from service providers, the need for business-aligned solutions and market positioning, global sourcing trends, the future of the outsourcing industry, Penang as the location of choice for the SSO (shared services & outsourcing) industry, creating value and leveraging intelligent date centres and the local to global ETP (economic transformation programme) journey.

Summit speakers include S. Swaminathan, CEO and managing director of Infosys BPO; Jerry Durant, chairman Emeritus (founder) for The International Institute for Outsource Management; Sam Haggag, country manager of the Manpower Group; Michael Warren, vice-president, Global Sourcing of government ICT agency Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC); and Bobby Varanasi, global ambassador of International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP).

The agenda will include the OM Excellence Award and dinner at the end of the second day, which will be launched by the Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili, added Wong.
