The solutions are expected to help the logistics service provider and port operator improve its client performance and Wi-Fi signal range by two-folds.

Katoen Natie — a global logistics service provider and port operator — has selected Ruckus Wireless' ZoneFlex Smart Wi-Fi solutions to support its warehousing operations worldwide.

Ian De Winter, Telecom Director for Katoen Natie said: "Our warehouse management system cannot work without Wi-Fi...[and] having thousands of people do nothing for 10 minutes costs us a lot of money. The Ruckus gear has allowed us to keep our costs down while improving the reliability of the infrastructure and the services we can provide customers."

Following is how Ruckus' solutions are being used to help Katoen Natie:

  • The Ruckus ZoneFlex dual-band 802.11n access points are capable of transmitting and receiving Wi-Fi at different angles. As this ensures a stable connection for the low-powered Wi-Fi hand scanners from IntermecorUnitech, employees are able to use the scanners to pick, pack and ship products, as well as manage customer inventories.
  • The Ruckus SmartMesh Networking technology helps reduce cabling costs and provide on-demand Wi-Fi services in areas where cabling is non-existent or cost prohibitive.
  • The Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi system tracks container shipments.
  • The Ruckus point-to point/ multipoint Wi-Fi devices helps extend the broadband connectivity between buildings to reduce recurring broadband costs.

De Winter estimates that the implementation of these solutions will help the company's client performance and Wi-Fi signal range improve by two-folds.

With a reliable Wi-Fi infrastructure in place, Katoen Natie is planning to invest in new Wi-Fi based applications. These include push-to-talk, IP-based voice services, video surveillance and new mobile applications that can add value to its customers and employees.
