Kaspersky Labs flagship home user product has beaten 22 competing security products to take out the AV-comparatives 2013 Product of the Year Award.
The winner, Kaspersky Internet Security, was chosen after all 22 products were tested for their ability to protect against real-world internet threats, identify thousands of recent malicious programs, and provide protection without slowing down the PC.
Optional tests checked a how well the products would remove malware from an infected PC, block new and unknown threats, and protect the user against phishing attacks.
The Product of the Year Award is given for the best overall score.
In addition to the Product of the Year Award the independent testing lab also gave Top Rated awards to products which had excellent results across a range of tests.
ESET, Bitdefender, F-Secure, Avast, BullGuard, Fortinet and AVIRA were Top Rated.
Emsisoft was also given special mention for gaining the Silver Award in the Real-World Protection Test in its first year of testing.
The report, released in January 2014, shows that out of 22 participating products, Kaspersky Lab's solution was the only one to achieve the top Advanced+ ranking in all of the tests throughout 2013.
As well as announcing the top-performing products of the year, AV-Comparatives also presented an assessment of the usability of each security solution that was tested. Taken together, these results enable consumers to select a product which combines reliability and convenience.
Kasperky Labs A/NZ technical manager, Sam Bryce-Johnson, said, to translate to a globally acclaimed and independent benchmark the results our local customers and partners experience when implementing our security solutions is a great recognition.
"We are proud to receive the 'Product of the Year' award, which highlights how our products and technologies are leading the way in advanced protection, as well as offering a security solution which enhances the end user experience."
