US advertising solutions firm Mediabrands has launched its Mediabrands Global Technology Solutions centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to provide technology enabled advertising solutions to its IPG business units around the world.

Speaking on 17 October 2012, Global Technology Solutions (GTS) SVP and director Dene Schonknecht said the centre is supported by local and regional staff. "The GTS hub will be involved in developing digital advertising solutions for display, search and social platforms."

"Already, we are seeing benefits to IPG Mediabrands business units around the world that are now able to tap into this centralised pool of technology skills," said Schonknecht. "GTS aims to provide access to technology Centres of Excellence (COE) which will allow immediate cost efficiencies and, as time goes by, increased industry domain knowledge."

He said the GTS hub would also be able to leverage the likes of other IPG Mediabrands innovation portals such as the IPG Media Lab, based in New York. "By developing technology-enabled solutions, GTS will enable IPG Mediabrands to use the wealth of data to which it has access, and assist agency leaders to collate, visualise and present the information to clients in an actionable way."

IPG Mediabrands global CTO, Dr Hagen Wenzek, said GTS opening in Malaysia was a sign of IPG Mediabrands understanding of the importance of having a strong presence in Asia.

"Having a technical team of highly motivated IPG Mediabrands employees in such a dynamic, highly educated, but also cost effective country like Malaysia makes us so much more competitive. While everybody is merely outsourcing or using global resources, we are building capabilities that let us compete on innovation and price at the same time," said Wenzek.

MSC Malaysia status

Malaysian national ICT agency Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) chief executive officer, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, said: "We are very pleased to be recognising IPG Mediabrands Global Technology Solutions with MSC status. They are a leader in advertising and media and we are looking forward to hosting them in Malaysia."

"Malaysia has established itself among the top three Shared Services & Outsourcing destinations in the world so it's important for us to maintain companies that drive innovation. Global Technology Solutions represents the sort of organisations we look to support in Malaysia and we welcome them into the market," said Badlisham.

MSC (Multimedia Supercorridor) Malaysia status is recognition by the Government of Malaysia through the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), for ICT and ICT-facilitated businesses that develop or leverage technically innovative platforms to produce and enhance their products and services. The accreditation is a mark of world-class service and achievement, and serves as a gateway to a host of privileges granted by the Government of Malaysia.
