Businesses are starting to look at investments into (Internet of Things) IoT seriously and how it can be leveraged to drive business growth.
Seagate's latest 2015 Year End Predictions indicate that consumers have begun to adopt wearables and connected home devices at a very high speed.
The public sector, which typically lags behind in new technology adoption, is leading the way in IoT deployments in an effort to build smarter cities.
Seagate predicts a whole new set of clients in 2016. This year will also see augmented virtual reality machines, 3D printing, autonomous vehicles and new classes of entertainment devices or drones. The overall market for these new clients is projected to be bigger than the PC market in the near future.
Increasing use of video surveillance drives Seagate's growth
A large number of businesses are turning towards surveillance making it a key growth area for Seagate.
The company expects the storage portion of the surveillance market to grow 40 percent year-on-year in the next few years.
It also foresees the market for video analytics to continue growing as businesses start to realise the value of using video data to drive sales and growth.
Seagate intends to engage with new customers and in turn define and develop new technologies and solutions to address market needs.
Looking ahead, the company wants to focus its innovation efforts on addressing application, workload and exabyte growth opportunities. Specifically, the areas it want to focus on are building the highest capacity drives, optimising performance, providing maximum cost efficiency, as well as creating highly portable and mobile drives for new devices.
