iOS 7 beta 3 has launched to developers. Here's the pick of the new features, tweaks and updates.

Right on schedule, Apple launched the third beta edition of its iOS 7 mobile operating system (for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) to app developers yesterday. iOS 7 beta 3 contains a number of fixes, tweaks and interesting new features. Here's the pick of the iOS 7 beta 3 features and updates.

iOS 7 beta 3 updates: New iOS 7 font
iOS 7 was previously noted for its stark, thin typography ("noted" here being a kind way of saying "furiously denounced"), but Apple has fattened things a little. System-wide - or at least across the Settings interfaces and similar environments - Apple has changed the font from Helvetica Neue Light to Helvetica Neue Regular.

It's not a massive change, but it makes a difference:

Following the claims by app developers that the previous system font was "unreadable", it's a small but significant change that shows Apple is listening (and a reminder that nothing about the beta is set in stone).

iOS 7 beta 3 updates: App download animation
Set an app to download on iOS 6 and the 7 and you'll see the app icon ticking around like the countdown on an old film:

iOS 7 beta 3 updates: Safari loses .com button
The standard .com button that currently appears in the keyboard when using Safari disappears in beta 3 of iOS 7.

iOS 7 beta 3 updates: Apple's official change log
Here's the rest of the tweaks, fixes and updates in beta 3 of iOS 7, as reported in Apple's own change log for the update (the text of which was helpfully provided by BGR):

Notes and Known Issues

The following issues relate to using iOS SDK 7.0 to develop code.

AirDrop

Notes

AirDrop in iOS 7 Seed 2 or later is not compatible with AirDrop in iOS 7 Seed 1.

Contacts Only support requires that:

You are logged in to iCloud.

The sender and receiver have each other's Apple ID email addresses in Contacts on their devices.

Known Issues

Contact Only currently requires that you have an active Internet connection.

The App Store should support the ability to find an app capable of opening a received document based on the document's Uniform Type Identifier (UTI). Currently, just a blank screen is displayed.

AirPlay

Fixed in Seed 3

When sending music to an Apple TV, advancing to the next track may fail.

Audio volume may increase dramatically and unexpectedly during AirPlay.

AV Foundation

Notes

AVCaptureSession now uses your app's AVAudioSession by default.
