Semiconductor giant Intel has joined with Malaysian solutions companies SNS Network and MyTeach to launch the JOI KinderTab, an Intel Atom powered Android tablet built for pre-school learners.

During the launch in Kuala Lumpur, Sam Al-Schamma, director of Education Sales, Asia Pacific, Intel Corporation, said the JOI KinderTab was a rugged solution with content based on the National Preschool Curriculum (Kurikulum Standard Prasekolah Kebangsaan).

"Intel has spent the last decade leading education transformation around the world and we believe that young people are the key to future innovation," he said in his announcement. "Devices like the JOI KinderTab offer the younger set of students limitless opportunities to enhance their learning experience. The availability of this affordable, purpose-built educational device brings us closer to our vision of enabling more students and teachers to participate in high quality education."

MSC [Multimedia Supercorridor) Malaysia status firm SNS Network's managing director Ko Yun Hung said: "Working together with Intel and MyTeach, we set out to create a device which can be used by parents and teachers to engage pre-school children in and out of the classroom. The JOI KinderTab has everything you need in an educational tablet - it is affordable, easy to use, rugged and child-proof."

"Collaborating with SNS Network has been an amazing experience," added Nick Lee, managing director, MyTeach. "Our in-house developed software which was specially designed for the tablet enables the best user experience and functionality for all its users - parent, teacher or child. We will continue working with schools and educationists to further customize the content preloaded on the JOI KinderTab. This ensures that the tablet will be relevant to all schools and students, regardless of which one they attend."
