Technology solutions firm Intel has appointed Malaysian Robin A. Martin as its new managing director to be responsible for its operations in Penang, Kulim and Kedah.

Martin, who is originally from Kuala Lumpur, takes over as Intel Malaysia MD assembly, test and manufacturing from Atul Bhargava in this position and will continue to maintain his global role as vice president for technology and manufacturing group and general manager of assembly test and manufacturing.

"I am very excited to take on this role and look forward to coming home and working with my new team," said Martin, who first joined Intel in 1984 as a product engineer of Microcontrollers.

"Malaysia is an important focus for Intel's global operations as it continues to move up the value chain and contributes towards the development of new technologies at Intel," he said. "The company has invested RM11.91 billion [US$4 billion] in Malaysia since establishing its presence here in 1972 and today employs about 10,000 people. We continue to contribute towards the local communities and are in full support of the national agenda of transforming Malaysia into a high-income economy."
