Mobile satellite communications services provider, Inmarsat, announced today its partnership with NT Digital Partners - a joint venture between content agency Spafax and Swank Motion Pictures Inc - to launch Fleet Media, a service that delivers the most recent viewing content to those at sea.
A comprehensive catalogue of Hollywood and international blockbusters and television programming, along with sports and news content will be available to crew over the Inmarsat network for on-demand, offline viewing.
This means that those on board commercial shipping vessels will no longer have to wait until they reach dry land to catch up on the latest films, sports and news.
Besides entertainment, this new service also aims to keep seafarers connected to the outside world and their respective homes, improving their quality of life while aboard a vessel.
"This is a revolutionary service for Inmarsat and for the maritime sector. It has been uniquely designed to support the industry in attracting and retaining their skilled personnel, as it serves as a game-changing differentiating factor in recruitment," said Ronald Spithout, President of Inmarsat Maritime. "While life at sea has historically been socially isolated, this service bridges that gap allowing seafarers to be more integrated and connected with their lives ashore than ever before. Fleet Media brings life on land to those living at sea."
Fleet Media is currently available on XpressLink and will soon be available across the wider Inmarsat Maritime portfolio.
