Cybersecurity solutions provider Sourcefire Malaysia has announced the availability of the industry's first intrusion prevention system (IPS) for 40 Gigabit Ethernet networks.

The new series of IPS and SSL (secure sockets layer) appliances will give customers the ability to support a wide range of performance requirements, said Sourcefire Malaysia country manager, Ivan Wen.

"This launch brings new models and enhancements to the 3D8000 series for high-end performance networks, introduces the new 3D7000 series of appliances for mid-range performance networks, and delivers a new SSL Appliance that delivers lightning fast SSL decryption," said Wen.

"Leveraging Sourcefire's FirePOWER technology, these appliances provide customers reliable, high quality, flexible security solutions that also maintain ultra-low latency inspection and security feature parity across the 3D8000 and 3D7000 series," he said. "The Sourcefire  3D8000 series now allows quad stacking that can grow throughput to deliver an amazing performance of over 40Gbps of IPS inspection in 10Gbps performance stages. This throughput scalability enables customers to purchase a device based on current performance requirements, and then easily expand throughput as needed."

"With the new 40 Gigabit Ethernet support, the 3D8000 Sourcefire IPS family makes us the first network security vendor to offer programmable fail-open 40 GbE [Gigabit Ethernet] interfaces to the IPS market," said Wen.

"In line with the recent launch of the Sourcefire's Agile Security initiative, we have outlined our vision for the ways how security solutions need to operate and provide customers with criteria to evaluate their security measurements," he said. "Unlike most other SSL decryption solutions, this new featured SSL 2000 appliance works on both inbound and outbound SSL traffic. The new SSL 2000 appliance enables customers to see inside encrypted communications to check for attack and misuse at the highest performance point available in the industry."
