The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), together with Environmental Management Association of Singapore (EMAS) and Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), recently introduced the Robot-as-a-Service (Raas) pilot solution to help redesign workflow processes and transform the cleaning landscape to become manpower lean.
The IDA introduced the solution during the Learning Journey for Small Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the cleaning sector event which they organised along with WDA and the Marina Bay Sands.
The RaaS solution -- provided by ICT solution provider V3 Teletech -- aims to innovate the way businesses deliver service excellence in the cleaning industry.
It has an autonomous controller which can be retrofitted to existing cleaning scrubber machines. The scrubber can be operated autonomously through the onboard camera and sensor that can record images, remote monitoring as well as analysis of cleaning tasks.
In addition, the solution offers flexibility to incorporate the technology to existing fleet of mechanical cleaning machines enabling businesses to utilise existing scrubbers. Cleaners from businesses can also be re-trained and appointed as technicians to manage multiple robotised machinery at once. With this, businesses will be able to address manpower shortage and allow the deployment of replaced manpower to other job functions.
The pilot project is supported by IDA's (a Lean Enterprise Development (LED) agency) Enhanced iSprint programme that looks at a sector-wide transformation in supporting SMEs with smart technologies to boost productivity and growth.
According to Khoong Hock Yun, Assistant Chief Executive (Development) and Chief Data Officer of the IDA: "Productivity can be seen as achieving more with less use of resources. Technology can be a force multiplier to help SMEs achieve greater productivity. I am glad that some SMEs in the cleaning sector has adopted the use of technologies to help address their labour crunch challenges, to do more with less."
Meanwhile, the pilot is also supported under the LED scheme, which was launched last year by the Ministry of Manpower along with other sector agencies to assist businesses transform and grow in the new manpower-lean landscape.
