KUALA LUMPUR - Technology giant IBM recently held a celebration to mark 50 years in Malaysia as well as the company's global centenary, which was held to honour its Malaysia-based clients.
The client appreciation dinner was also attended by the Malaysian ministry of science, technology & innovation (MOSTI) minister, YB Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili. "For IBM Malaysia, our golden anniversary (21 June 2011) is a significant milestone," said IBM Malaysia managing director, Ramanathan Sathiamutty. "We are proud to have played a role in the progress and development of a smarter nation."
"IBM has always differentiated itself as an innovative and progressive company with great foresight right from the first day it landed on the shores of Malaysia on 21 June 1961," said Sathiamutty. "A key testament of that was when the company hired a woman as its first employee in Malaysia, at a time when others were questioning the rights of women in the workforce."
"[Through the past 50 years] IBM Malaysia has also been contributing to nation-building through strategic support of government initiatives, a wide spectrum of corporate community programmes and outreach to mid-size businesses," he said. "IBM today has 20 centres of excellence (CoEs) operating in Kuala Lumpur to serve the region and the world, clearly demonstrating that Malaysia is regarded as a country with highly-skilled professionals who have the expertise to manage shared services."
"IBM has stood the test of time that no other company in the IT industry, globally and locally, has," added Sathiamutty. "We have evolved as an organisation, while remaining steadfast to our core values and played a role in bringing the promise of progress to life for our clients. We will continue to play that role and strive towards building a Smarter Planet in Malaysia."
