ICT solutions provider Huawei recently previewed its latest user interface for Android smartphone devices aimed at "cementing" the company's strength in the smartphone market.
Built around the philosophy of 'Design with Empathy', Huawei said the new interface - dubbed as 'Emotion UI' -- takes into account how users interact with their smartphones and what they expect from these interactions.
Huawei said Emotion UI improves usability and is simpler to navigate. Users can customise the design and functions of the smartphone to suit their particular needs.
A 'Me Widget' combines the user's information and functions into a single, customisable widget. For new users, the UI offers the 'Smart Tutorial' which acts as a comprehensive support tool to help them learn the features of their smartphones quickly.
Huawei said these features were developed based on consumer feedback.
"Emotion UI is a reflection of Huawei's empathic design philosophy - built by consumers for consumers. In designing this user interface, we spoke to consumers to find out what they wanted from their smartphones, the type of experiences they sought when interacting with their devices and what we, as consumers ourselves, want from our smartphones. The team was very conscious about placing people before technology. We believe that it is only through listening to what consumers want and need that we can truly develop products that they will love," said Dennis Poon, director, Global UI Design, Huawei Device.
The new interface was introduced at the IFA 2012 held in Berlin, Germany recently.
It was previewed to give consumers and users time to send in their feedback for further development, Huawei said.
English and Chinese versions of the UI are available for download in the region up to the fourth quarter 2012. Feedback can be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
