HTC confirms product launch for 19 February

HTC is likely to launch its M7 smartphone on 19 February after confirming the event.

HTC has scheduled a launch event in New York and London on 19 February.

It seems the Taiwanese smartphone maker just can't wait until Mobile World Congress (MWC) to unveil its latest device. There's no indication of what will be announced but it likely to be the recently leaked M7 flagship handset.

The 19 February launch vindicates a rumour which surfaced last week. The M7 is tipped to replace the HTC One X+ as the firm's flagship smartphone.

Expected specifications for the HTC M7 include a 4.7in Full HD (1920 x 1080) screen, a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, Android Jelly Bean with Sense 5.0 and a 12Mp camera.

Leaked images of the phone show a design closer to HTC's Windows Phone 8 handsets, the 8X and 8S, than its One and Desire ranges of Android devices.

Invitations for the event, which takes place in central London at 3pm, have been sent out. It falls only a matter of days before MWC, the industry show where this year's smartphones and tablets will be announced and shown off.

The show will run from 25 to 28 February in Barcelona and we'll be there to bring you all the news and hands-on with the devices. All the big name smartphone and tablet makers will be showing off their new kit including Nokia, LG and Motorola.

Samsung will also be at MWC but it's unlikely that the Galaxy S4 will be revealed there. We're expecting a number of tablets including a possible Galaxy Note 8.0.
