HP fashions the new style of IT

CEO Meg Whitman wants you to know HP can take customers through the currents of change brought on by the cloud, Big Data, mobility and infosecurity trends, and more.

Tuesday, June 25, 2013, Day 2 of the HP World Tour in Beijing—and CEO Meg Whitman spoke to an audience of mostly Chinese senior information executives, but what she said might as well have been for the rest of Asia and the world.  In her keynote, at the China World Hotel, she set the theme for the remainder of quite possibly the tech vendor's biggest event for customers and the media of the year. That theme? "The New Style of IT."  Her central message: your world is changing and you have to change with it, we are here to take you through that transition, and here are the ways and means (and, of course, we just about have them all).

"This is our very first HP World Tour, and we chose to start it right here in Asia Pacific, and specifically in China, because of the importance of this market to Hewlett Packard," said Whitman. "Many of you know I have been here many times before. And as always I am deeply impressed by the energy, the determination and the accomplishments that are the hallmarks of China's continued growth."

"HP became the first Sino-US venture back in 1985," said Whitman. "We made a strategic decision to invest in China and to become a member of this community. We like to say HP is in China for China, and as China prospers, we believe we're in China for the world. Now what an exciting time we are living in. The world in which we live and do business is changing, and you're seeing this in China, arguably more than anywhere else in the world. And it is all propelled by our IT industry. Together, as partners we are managing more data and more complexity than we have ever faced before. We're also managing speed-everything from time to market to customer response. And we're managing opportunities, opportunities the likes of which our industry has never seen."

"In the last year, we have been listening to you more closely than ever before. You've told us that you want HP to win. You've invested in our technology over many years, and you've turned to HP to continue to bring you solutions that solve your problems and help you and your company to succeed in the marketplace. You've already told us that you deeply appreciate the benefits that you get from HP in an industry that is characterised by increasing consolidation and change," Whitman said.

"Our customers have always been the very heart of this company, and that's truer today than it has ever been," she said. "HP can help you manage complexity in ways that no other company can. We have unique perspectives, because we helped build the previous IT world and we're helping you create the new one. And most of you have a foot in each."
