HIMSS AsiaPac14 Digital Healthcare Week will be returning to Singapore for the fourth time from September 15 to 18, 2014 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

Established in 2007, the IT healthcare conference is organised by HIMSS - a cause-based, non-profit organisation focused on providing global leadership for the optimal use of information technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare.

This four-day event - opened by Singapore's Minister for Health, Gan Kim Yong - will bring together healthcare practitioners, technologists, policymakers and academics from across the world together for a series of forums, talks and exhibitions on the latest innovations and applications of healthcare technology.

During the opening ceremony, Minister Gan will be presenting two awards - the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) Award and HIMSS-Elsevier Digital Healthcare Award. EMRAM awards healthcare institutions in the Asia Pacific region for their successful implementation of technology, while the latter award recognises organisations that are pushing the envelope with healthcare digitisation intitiatives that not only drive efficiencies, but also improve the quality of care.

HIMSS AsiaPac 2014 will feature keynote addresses and engaging sessions from speakers such as Dr. Rafael J. Grossmann. He is the first person to use Google Glass in live surgery, and will discuss how the device can open new possibilities in medicine. In addition, Professor Henrique Martins from Portugal's Ministry of Health, will also share his insights on how to engage patients and lead physicians into adopting healthcare IT.

Besides that, attendees can also learn first-hand about the impact of technology and data in healthcare through panel discussions with policymakers, thought leaders and practitioners in the healthcare industry. Some of the tracks include Regional HIT, Physician IT, Nursing Informatics, Personal Connected Health, and Technology and Standards.

Lastly, delegates will have a chance to visit the HIMSS AsiaPac 2014 Exhibition, where healthcare providers and vendors will be showcasing their latest innovations in technology, procedures and patient management from across the region.

"Following the success of our event in 2013, HIMSS AsiaPac 2014 will build on the developments and breakthroughs in the healthcare industry over the past year," said Linus Tham, chairperson of HIMSS AsiaPac14's organising committee. "For this eighth installment in September, we are looking forward to showcasing the very latest advances and findings from the implementation of technology in healthcare. These will be shared by some of the industry's most respected figures from the Asia-Pacific region and across the globe."
