Most commuters often experience the difficulty of trying to book a cab, especially during peak hours.
In a bid to meet this demand, GrabTaxi has launched GrabCar, a complementary service that enables users to book a private hire premium car, the taxi-booking mobile app developer announced today (8 July, 2014).
GrabCar is essentially an extension of the GrabTaxi app, so existing users need not download an additional application, and simply choose to book a taxi or car within the same app.
Users can opt for a four-, six-, or 13-seater ride, with base charges costing S$50, S$55 and S$65 respectively. A lower-tier of fares is available for "short transfers" - journeys shorter than four kilometers - and an additional midnight surcharge of S$10 will also be applicable for rides between 12am to 6am.
"Other transport companies adopt a "time and distance" pricing system, but we go by "per ride". At a glance, our pricing might seem steep, but it's actually on par with other limousine services," said Lim Kell Jay, GrabTaxi's general manager. "Additionally, since our pricing is based on a fixed fare, this means that even if you get caught in a traffic jam, there is no metre running to give you a bill shock at the end of the ride. This fixed fare system also makes it affordable for long-distance rides."
In fact, the company claims that the app is very transparent with its pricing as users are shown upfront the cost of the ride before they confirm their booking.
"The inclusion of GrabCar as part of the GrabTaxi service shows our desire and ability to meet our customers' needs especially during peak hours," said founder and group CEO of GrabTaxi, Anthony Tan. "It offers them access to a wider network of taxis as well as premium cars. The inclusion of GrabCar as part of the GrabTaxi network will give our passengers that personalised experience, while at the same time, ensuring quick, safe and reliable rides."
"GrabCar provides passengers in Singapore with all of the perks of car ownership, minus the hassle. We deliver you from doorstep to doorstep so that you don't have to worry about parking and the changing driving conditions in Singapore," Lim added. "Also, speed remains our biggest priority. Backed by the same promise as GrabTaxi, we are working closely with our partners to ensure we have sufficient quality drivers to back the demand."
The GrabCar mobile app can be downloaded for free on the iTunes App Store, Google Play Store, Windows Phone Store and Blackberry World.
