Flash storage pioneer Fusio-io has partnered Oriel Technologies as part of an A/NZ expansion which seeks to drive adoption of flash in hypervisor solutions.
Fusion.io A/NZ country manager Simon Williams told ARN his firm chose to work with Oriel Technologies because they were an HP partner and understood the HP reference architecture.
"This is important because it allows them to deploy Fusion-io solutions which provide customers with improved performance using Flash in the hypervisor -- whilst containing costs," he said.
"Fusion-io is actively working with HP Partners such as Oriel Technologies to provide flash based solutions which allow end customers, across a wide range of industries and sectors in the Australian and New Zealand, to take advantage of virtualisation."
Earlier this year, Oriel designed and implemented oOh!media's data centre infrastructure.
Fusion-io and in particular, its ioTurbine solution, were a key part the solution to allow oOh!media to increase the performance of their server applications as well as enable them to increase their virtual server density on each of their VMware hosts, according to a Fusion-io spokesman.
oOh!media is now implementing on to the same infrastructure VMware Horizon Suite (EUC/VDI) to 250 users.
Usually this type of project would require additional storage resources to support the IO requirements of VDI, but as their infrastructure was already enabled with Fusion-io, this new workload has been able to be added to their current server infrastructure without the need for any additional hardware.
Oriel Technologies CTO, Richard Mitton said the partnership delivered solutions where performance of the servers and applications were key.
"Oriel sees Fusion-io as the key success factor in a number of customers projects," he said.
"In one instance we saw a customer legacy database application performance dramatically increased, with the batch processing jobs being reduced from hours to minutes."
Williams said the company was currently investing in the A/NZ region.
"We have just put on a new team down in Melbourne to cover the southern region so there's definitely significant investment we are making to help grow the region," he said.
"The fantastic thing is the uptake and the level of interest from VARS and integrators is spectacular," he said
"So they are going in and talking to customers and changing the game. They are teaching customers to think differently about how to look at the flash architecture, compared to that traditional compute and SAN."
Fusion--io vice president, product marketing, Lee Caswell said there were a few reasons why the reseller model worked well for his company.
"Resellers tend to like things that are faster and cheaper so we have a product that gives customers a reason to go and make a change and then we have also done a lot of work," he said.
