Fraudulent emails purporting to be issued by the HKMA

The case has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has cautioned the public to be wary of emails sent from email accounts remit.xxxxxxx@hkma.gov.hk, where "xxxxxxx represents various numbers.

The emails are crafted to appear to be from the HKMA but the central bank has clarified that it has no connection with the fraudulent emails.

The HKMA has referred the case to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation.
