The National ICT Association of Malaysia, PIKOM, together with events organiser CommTechAsia, has announced three consumer-related ICT events - Digital Lifestyle Expo (DLE), GoMobile Expo and PC Fair - are to be held concurrently in a 'first-of-its-kind three-in-one ICT event' at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Malaysia, from 23 to 25 August 2013.
Mobile is the key trend now with mobile penetration in Malaysia at 143.4 percent, according to the national regulator Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), said PIKOM chairman Woon Tai Hai.
However, according to market analyst firm AC Nielsen, smartphone penetration was only at 27 percent in 2012, said Woon, which means that "the opportunities and potential in the mobile space are just enormous."
"GoMobile Expo, since 2008 has established itself as the major mobile event to 'look out for' every year," he said. "We believe together with GoMobile Expo, this three-in-one event will be the largest ICT event in the country offering the greatest ever bargains of the latest tech products and services to consumers. This collaboration would certainly alleviate our fair to another height as it will be the most exciting of all the fairs we have ever organised and the biggest beneficiary to this will be our consumers."
"PC Fair has a track record of pulling tens of thousands of people. I believe this will be a win-win situation for all, not only to GoMobile Expo, but to PIKOM and the shoppers at large as well," said CommTechAsia chief executive officer Kashminder Singh.
MCMC will participate this year at the Digital Lifestyle Expo (DLE), said MCMC chief officer of corporate services and support, Tengku Zaib Raja Ahmad, who added that the participation underpinned the country's focus on the digital world, particularly in four key areas: Connected Healthcare, Home and Community Living, Traceability and People-Friendly Commuting.
