Eyeing bigger share of Malaysian mobility pie, HTC announces new country head

Mobile devices firm HTC has appointed Cheong Wah Tong as the new country manager of Malaysia as part of a drive to increase its share of the country's rapidly expanding country's mobile industry.

Cheong, who brings more than 20 years of industry experience, will be heading and building a local team as well as managing distributor, operator and key retail partner activities to increase market share in Malaysia.

"We are pleased to announce these important organisational changes to bolster key areas of the business," said Jack Yang, president of HTC South Asia. "We are confident that this change will help drive continuous growth of Malaysian business and also enhance our South East Asia sales and customer experience in the region."

"Concurrent with this change, SK Wong will assume the position of SEA Channel Sales Director, who will play a critical role in improving our execution and coordination within South East Asia to bring a comprehensive and holistic distribution strategy and execution," said Yang.

"HTC is a leader in smart device innovation and design with a track record of producing award-winning devices paired with good user engagement," said Cheong. "I am thrilled to work with HTC Malaysia and I look forward to working closely with the team to further grow HTC's business portfolio in the country with the extensive range of existing products and services."

Cheong's career includes building business development in the mobile industry, with previous roles at Sony Mobile, LG Electronics Malaysia as well as Sony Ericsson Mobile.
