The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) launched on Monday (12 October 2015) the Project "Agimat" which will be pilot tested in Marikina City.

On this project, Marikeños will be using Open Garden's FireChat, a free messaging app that uses Bluetooth or Wi-Fi radio to send messages, up to 210-feet distance, even without Internet connection or mobile network.

Marikina City Mayor Del De Guzman said this project will help them provide public warnings in times of disasters. He also hopes that FireChat will help them attain zero casualty goal in the city.

The project is a collaboration among DOST, Open Garden, and city government of Marikina. FireChat can be downloaded from Google Play Store or Apple Store, or visit https://firech.at/Marikina.
