Malaysia's Digi Telecommunications (Digi) post-paid and prepaid subscribers to will be able to donate to the Nepal earthquake relief efforts through SMS up to 31 May 2015.
Digi chief corporate affairs officer Eugene Teh said the SMS mobile donation campaign, which started 30 April 2015, allows Digi customers to donate by writing an SMS with 'NP' followed by the amount to be contributed (e.g. "NP 10″ for RM10 donation) and send it to 20000.
Contributions can be made in RM1, RM5, RM10, RM30, and RM50 denominations. All funds collected will be channelled to UNICEF's Humanitarian Fund to be used among others for water, sanitation and hygiene, medical and child protection, said Teh.
"Our prayers and thoughts go out to all who have lost their loved ones and are deeply affected by the earthquake in Nepal. We hope this small gesture will provide Digi customers with a reliable platform to extend their support for those who have been badly impacted in Nepal," he said.
For post-paid customers, the donation will be reflected in their Digi bill while for prepaid customers, it will be deducted from their credit balance, and 100 percent of these donations go directly to the fund, said Teh.
Customers can also donate via UNICEF's webpage (unicef.my/emergency) or through alternative channels.
Part of the global communications company Telenor Group, Bursa-listed Digi is also marking its 20th anniversary in Malaysia during the month of May this year.
