Networking solutions provider Cisco announced on 8 September 2011 that it has appointed a new managing director for its Malaysia operations.

Cisco Asia South general manager Irving Tan said Yuri Wahab is now Cisco's MD for Malaysia. "Yuri is a great addition to Cisco in Malaysia, which continues to be of strategic importance to our business in Asia Pacific. His strong credentials and industry track record makes him the right leader to take Cisco forward as we increase the use of the network as a platform to transform our world. Malaysia has tremendous opportunities in ICT and we are focused on creating business value for our customers."

Tan said Wahab brings more than 25 years experience in the industry to his new role. "Yuri has regional experience across Asia Pacific as part of his previous career progression and has had the opportunity to work with many global ICT leaders in various technology spaces."

In his previous roles, he was responsible for developing relationships with government ministries and agencies, building a channel and driving key customer engagement across the carrier and enterprise portfolios.

"These opportunities and the relevant technologies and solutions that are available make this an opportune time for me to be part of a global leader like Cisco," said Wahab. "I look forward to working with my team to develop and grow key business areas and transformation projects that will drive the country's national agenda while helping the government, businesses and citizens harness the power of the network to drive innovation as well as revitalise key economic areas."
