Kyocera Document Solutions expects more of the industry to look outside traditional revenue streams for alternative means to boost profit margins.

Mark Vella, sales and marketing director at the printer vendor, attributes this outlook to a different approach undertaken by the Federal Government.

"The Government has decided it should give the market some stability to move forward with decision making, and we are confident this will have a positive impact," he said. Vella foresees this leading to an increase in demand for sustainable document solutions, with environmentally conscious vendors to have an edge over the competition.

"As we become more aware of the impact of e-waste and companies take their corporate social responsibility more seriously, we believe green credentials will become the leading factor in a client's choice of document solution provider," he said.

MPS in focus
Vella saw several developments take place in the local printer space last year, but none stood out more than the growing interest in managed print services (MPS).

"This trend has been practically higher in 2013 than in any other previous year," he said.

He adds that biggest surprise from this development was that it came from the "traditional hardware type" reseller channel.
