All Google Postini users, including those in Malaysia, will have the option of a free six-month security offering from US-headquartered security solutions firm Barracuda Networks.

Speaking on 4 September 2012, Barracuda Networks Malaysia regional manager Thiban Darmalingam said the free Barracuda Email Security Service and Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall service is part of a transition plan offered to Malaysian Google Postini users whose e-mail security is shut down in an attempt to force users to transfer their accounts to Google Apps.

Darmalingam said that Barracuda Networks is making this bold transition offering available on the heels of Google's recent announcement at CNET that the company is retiring the Postini service by 2013.

Google Postini customers all around the world who choose not to transfer their accounts to Google Apps will see their Postini service terminated, leaving their in-boxes open to spam, phishing and other attacks, he said.

"We are offering our local customers here an exceptional pure cloud solution, hardware appliance and virtual appliance deployment options, which will fit best to just about any customer environment fulfilling a broad spectrum of privacy requirements," said Darmalingam.

"While Google is trying to push their customers to Google Apps, we recognise that many users want a continuation choice, so we are offering existing Postini customers in this difficult position to try Barracuda's  e-mail security solutions at risk free for six months - especially when they are forced to go through this transition period," he said.

Malaysia's move to technological growth

"In the country's move towards technological growth, it is important that the basic online communication is secured," said Darmalingam. "Customers need to continually feel safe in order to connect and share data freely online without risk of being infected."

In addition to the cost benefits of receiving six months of e-mail security free of charge, he added that Barracuda Networks would include other benefits such as:

- Controlled privacy: Customers concerned with privacy issues related to Google Apps can be assured that Barracuda Networks does not collect any information for the purpose of serving advertisements.
- Attractive pricing: Both the Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall and Barracuda Email Security Service provide more competitive pricing than Google Postini.
- Encryption and other advanced features, which include encryption and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) for no additional charge.
