Axis Bank — a private sector bank in India — recently revamped its mobile banking app in response to the Indian customers' increased preference for mobile banking.

According to the bank, it has seen a 10-fold increase of transactions made via the old Axis Mobile app in the last 12 months. It expects this trend to continue and thus aims to "reach out to 1.5 million retail resident Indian customers with the revamped app", said Rajiv Anand, President, Retail Banking, Axis Bank.

The revamped app, Axis Mobile 2.0, allows users to customise their mobile banking page according on the user segment (youth, prime and premium segments). It also enables users to access their savings and credit card accounts, as well as manage transactions such as account enquiries, bill payments and fund transfers. As the application is integrated with social media, users can pull in images from Facebook or upload photos to the app too.

Axis Mobile 2.0 is the result of the bank's partnership with Tagit, a Singapore mobile solutions company. By leveraging Tagit's mobility solution platform, the bank is able to quickly implement updates or new features.

Currently available on Apple and Android phones, Axis Mobile 2.0 will soon make its way to devices running on Blackberry, Symbian, J2ME, and Windows operating system.
