Australians have a real appetite for big screen Smart TVs: Panasonic

Australian consumers are in love with big screen TVs, according to Panasonic Viera group marketing manager, Matt Pearce.

Pearce made the observation during the recent launch of Panasonic's Ultra HD/4K TV, TH-L65WT600A.

When HD TVs started to proliferate half a decade ago, they were offered in sizes big and small, but vendors such as Panasonic have so far only release big screen Ultra HD TVs.

In Panasonic's case, the TH-L65WT600A is only available at 65 inches.

Pearce expects this to be a good starting point, considering the "enormous shift" to large screen size in Australia.

"It is the fastest growing aspect of the TV market," he said.

Bigger is better
In 2013, the Smart TV space saw a 40 per cent growth in the 55 inch and larger segment, and 65 inch segment is double the market size in terms of units.

The Consumer Electronics Association is also estimating that a million Ultra HD TVs will sell in 2015.

For those reasons, Pearce expects that there will be a real appetite for 65 inch Ultra HD TVs in the local market.

"With Australians' love of technology, we see a real interest in large screen TVs and we expect these products to be well received," he said.

Panasonic's Ultra HD TV has been schedule for a late October release with pricing yet to be announced.
