The iPhone 5C, the iPhone 5S, iOS 7 or all of the above could be heading for launch, after Apple today sent out media invitations to a press conference on 10 September.

The event, long rumoured but only now confirmed, is expected to see the final announcement of iOS 7, which has been in beta since WWDC, alongside new models of iPhone for it to run on, but details are still scarce (as is Apple's habit ahead of a major launch).

The invitation features Apple's logo in front of brightly colour bubbles, mirroring the vibrant colour scheme in iOS 7. It could also be a nod to the rumoured plan to launch the iPhone 5C in a range of colours.

The message underneath is 'This should brighten everyone's day'.

Apple's media event is scheduled for 10 September, Tuesday next week, at the Town Hall in Apple HQ, Cupertino. It starts at 10am local time, which translates to 6pm UK time. Follow the event on where we'll be live-blogging the announcements and providing expert analysis of all the big news and launches.

As well as iOS 7 — which seems almost certain to make an appearance — and the likely inclusion of one or more new iPhone models, it's possible that Apple could provide more information on the new Mac Pro, although that product's artistic minimalist style is somewhat at odds with the bright, bubbly visuals of the invitation.

As for new iPads — well, it's possible, but the total lack of leaks and almost total lack of rumours probably means we'll be waiting for the iPad 5 for some time.
