Technology moves fast so we're always looking at what the next generation can bring and when it will bring it. Here's all the rumours and information surrounding the iPad mini 3.
Ok, it probably won't be called the iPad mini 3 but that's what we're going to call it for now. The iPad mini 2 is officially called 'iPad mini with Retina display' so who knows what the next model will be christened - perhaps it will gain the 'Air' title which has been used for the latest full-size iPad.
There are few details on the iPad mini 3 to report but here they are and we'll update this article as and when we here more on Apple's plans.
iPad mini 3: Release date
There's really only one rumour on the iPad mini 3 release date at the moment and it seems reasonable enough. AppleInsider has obtained a research note by KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who states that Apple will bring a refreshed iPad mini in the third quarter of 2014.
That places the iPad mini 3 launch between July and September. Apple likes autumn launch events with devices going on sale shortly afterwards giving consumers the chance to make purchases in the run up to Christmas.
If we were going to put some money down on a month for the iPad mini 3 release date, it would be November but that falls in the last quarter of the year. Apple announced the original iPad mini in October 2012 with the device hitting shops in November. The iPad mini 2 was announced a year later in October and again went on sale in November.
iPad mini 3: Price
The price of the iPad mini 3 is hard to call since the price of the iPad mini 2 is £50 more than the original - £319 compared to £269. That was mainly due to the Retina quality screen upgrade.
So, unless Apple does something major to the iPad mini 3, we expect it to come in at the same price. The firm is likely to then discontinue the original model completely (it currently sells just a 16GB at £249) and reduce the price of the iPad mini 2 and offer it in just the base storage capacity.
iPad mini 3: Specs
The first leak of iPad mini 3 specifications is an image from Nowhereelse which shows a tablet which looks like and iPad mini with a Touch ID - the fingerprint scanning home button which Apple introduced with the iPhone 5s but didn't make its way onto any iPads.
