Rovio Entertainment, the developer of the popular Angry Birds games, has acquired Futuremark Games Studio, the games development arm of Futuremark, a developer of PC performance test software.
The acquisition for an undisclosed amount comes less than a year after the Finnish company acquired animation studio Kombo, also based in Finland, to boost its animation production capabilities.
Set up in 2008, Futuremark Games Studio has a portfolio of games, such as Unstoppable Gorg and Hungribles, but the acquisition appears to be primarily aimed at getting its staff.
As Rovio continues its expansion in entertainment, publishing, animation, and retail, the company will continue to focus on seeking out the world's best talent to join its team, Rovio said in a statement on Tuesday.
Futuremark said that 3DMark, its professional grade benchmark, in a new version to be released later this year will allow unified gaming performance comparison across operating systems and form factors.
Rovio, which has built its business entirely around Angry Birds and related businesses that aim to benefit from the popularity of the game, launched last week Angry Birds Space on iOS, Android, Mac and PC. It claimed 10 million downloads of the new game in less than three days after the launch.
