Amazon Web Services has launched 'WorkMail', a cloud-based corporate email and calendaring service.
The service enables users to send and receive email, manage contacts, share calendars and book resources using Microsoft Outlook, their Web browser, or native iOS and Android email applications, Amazon said.
WorkMail integrates with existing corporate directories and has enterprise-level security features to control and protect data. It also eliminates the need for organisations to purchase and license email services and handle the ongoing patching, back-up, and upgrades involved in maintaining these systems, Amazon said.
Amazon claimed existing cloud email services may eliminate the need for organisations to purchase expensive hardware, and deal with complex licensing and maintenance, but they don't offer the security features businesses require like strong encryption management and full control over data location.
Amazon also claimed other cloud-based email systems don't integrate with existing corporate directories or support popular Microsoft Outlook features like shared calendaring.
Amazon WorkMail costs US$4 per user per month and includes 50GB of mailbox storage for each user.
Amazon WorkMail and Amazon WorkDocs can be purchased together for US$6 per month. This option includes 50GB of Amazon WorkMail mailbox storage and 200GB of Amazon WorkDocs storage for each user.
Amazon also offers a free 30-day trial of WorkMail.
