Malaysia's national ICT agency Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) has announced this year's edition of MyCyberSale, which will take place from 28 Sep to 2 Oct 2015.

The online national sale, an initiative under Digital Malaysia, is part of a series of moves to catalyse the growth of the eCommerce industry, which is an important contributor to the digital economy, said MDeC chief executive officer Dato' Yasmin Mahmood during her announcement.

The first MyCyberSale [#MYCYBERSALE] in 2014 generated RM67m (US$15.33) million in revenue from 227,000 successful transactions, with more than 200 percent increase in online traffic reported by participating eTailers.

"Given the great response last year and seeing how MyCyberSale was also able to transform consumer lifestyle, as well as the way of doing business, the 2015 edition is bigger and better to continue growing the eCommerce industry and bringing the ecosystem together to embrace the Digital Malaysia agenda, said Dato' Yasmin.

This year, the same will host more than 400 participating e-tailers including those outside the Klang Valley, such as from Sabah, Sarawak, Johor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan. This is a 40 percent compared to 2014.

Popular eMarketplaces such as 11street, GEMFIVE, Go Shop, Qoo10 and Agrobazaar have also joined the line-up this year, alongside Lazada, Zalora, Lelong, Rakuten and Groupon who continue to support this Digital Malaysia initiative.

Regional expansion

Yasmin said MyCyberSale 2015 was also expanding to target regional shoppers, especially from Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia. To cater for these bigger markets and to allow longer shopping period, the sale will be extended to five days, compared to only three days last year.

Maybank and Visa will also help to reach the target consumers as official promotion partners. In addition, MDeC is also introducing the #MYCYBERSALE App, which will be available for download on Google Play Store and Apple App Store starting from 21 Sept 2015.

The sale is endorsed and governed by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) and regulators such as the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism (KPDNKK) which oversees the overall e-commerce Act, regulation and buyer protection; the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM).
