1,000 digital signages in Malaysia: U Mobile

The Malaysian telco partnership with BChannel is part of an expansion into the enterprise and SME space.

To expand its enterprise and SME business, Malaysian telco U Mobile has signed with Berjaya Channel (BChannel) to connect 1,000 digital signage screens across Klang Valley, Selangor, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan with high speed mobile Internet.

Under the partnership, U Mobile's E28 plan and broadband dongles will provide the 3G wireless broadband data service to allow advertisements on BChannel's digital screens, said U Mobile director of marketing Jasmine Lee. The advertisements will be created by subsidiaries within the Berjaya Group, U Mobile and other participating vendors to screens that will be placed in restaurants, convenience stores, shopping malls, pharmacies and other retail outlets.

"The 1,000 targeted high traffic locations are all equipped with 40 inch commercial grade display screens and thin client from Hewlett Packard, which serves as the media player," said BChannel general manager Daniel Cheah.

"Using tier one content management software powered by U Mobile's 3G high speed Internet connection, we are able to deliver across the entire network or selected localised areas the advertisement contents with very short deployment time needed," Cheah said.

He said BChannel would start off with 1,000 screens and is currently working on deploying more sites to provide further coverage to other high traffic areas in the country.
