SHENZHEN, CHINA, 7 OCTOBER 2010 ─ NTT Communications (NTT Com) is set to unveil a new Tier lll (Tier lV-ready) facility in Hong Kong.

Located in the eastern side of Kowloon, the new premium data centre will begin commercial operations between January and March of 2013. Spread in 30,000 sq m of land space, the new facility will become NTT Com's biggest data centre outside of Japan.

 Environmentally friendly services

NTT Communications is establishing the Hong Kong Tseung Kwan O Data Center to offer multinational customers high-quality, high-reliability and environmentally friendly data centre services.

Designed by NTT Com, this facility will be constructed and operated by NTT Worldwide Telecommunications, which is responsible for the procurement and management of data centres worldwide for the NTT Com Group.

The new data centre is a sister facility of NTT Com's Tai Po Data Center, also in Hong Kong. NTT says Tseung Kwan O Data Center will be fully equipped to address the special needs of IT, financial and other companies that operate always-on communication infrastructure.

"Our data centre in Tai Po is expected to be fully occupied in the coming two years, so this new data centre will further enhance our provision of seamless, top-standard data centre services," said Takanobu Maeda, president and CEO of NTT Com Asia.

 Rapid data backup

In addition to featuring fully redundant commercial power supply, Hong Kong Tseung Kwan O Data Center will include cooling systems, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, generators and full systems for preventing fire and water damage.

NTT is offering more than 20 KVA of power per rack with this facility that is expected to obtain globally recognised certifications for safety, efficiency and eco-friendliness.

Because the points of presence for NTT Com's Arcstar Global IP-VPN and Global e-VLAN services will be co-located within the Tseung Kwan O Data Center, equipment and service backbone interconnections can be enabled at relatively low costs.
